I just saw that all of the books in the Desiring God store will be just $5 on June 27-28, this Wednesday and Thursday. If you're looking for some good reads, check it out. Molly and I were talking the other day about our all time favorite books. One of mine was Desiring God and one of hers was Don't Waste Your Life.
Epiphany Fellowship is a new church in urban Philadelphia that is specifically trying to reach hip-hop culture. This is a music video they've put together of their core values. I think this is a creative way of communicating to the setting they're in.
Well, Molly and I just returned from our vacation in San Diego. We had a fun and refreshing time as a family and with some of our dearest friends. One of my favorite moments was gathering around the computer and laughing until I cried at this video of comedian Brian Regan.
One of the most challenging things about living in the freedom and grace that comes through treasuring Jesus Christ is that we often want to create laws that will help us feel good about ourselves. As a result, we don't have the discernment, boldness, or love that is required to really follow the Spirit's leading in our lives. We're not living by the Spirit, we're living by the law.
Here is a video done to one of my favorite Derek Webb songs, "A New Law."
If you've been around this blog for any length of time, you know that John Piper has had a pretty incredible influence on me. One of the more under-the-radar aspects of his ministry that has really blessed me is his series of Narrative Poems. Every year, as a Christmas gift to his church, he writes a poem for each week of advent. The poems are mostly stories from the lives of biblical saints or fictional characters who find their lives intertwined with significant events in redemptive history.
I'm about to go on vacation (leave next Friday!) and one of my favorite things to do on vacation is to print off a series of poems and read them. I am almost always moved to tears. This year, I'm taking his series on "Nebuchadnezzar," "Paul's Face," and "The Prodigal's Sister."
